THE CLASSIC OLD FASHIONED
Swankadelic… This is my favourite drink hands down. The old fashioned was first mentioned in 1806, making it older than the martini and manhattan. Be warned it is meant to be sipped and even then it’s lethal. I know that everyone has their own way of making an old fashioned, so feel free to explore other options, but this mix has never let me down. Mmmmmm.
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
3 dashes angostura bitters
1 teaspoon club soda
2 ounces Bulleit Bourbon
1 single, large cube of ice
Orange twist for garnish
1 marasca cherry (optional) info on marasca cherries
In an old fashioned glass, measure the sugar and bitters together, muddle slightly to dissolve sugar.
Add the soda.
Add the bourbon and ice, stir briefly to chill.
Drop in the cherry.
Rub the orange twist around the rim of the glass and drop it into your drink. (If you dare, grab a lighter, twist the orange peel like you’re wringing out a cloth, to release the peels essential oils and spark the spray of orange oil over the drink for an extra touch.)
* Best enjoyed dressed to the nines.
